Board Registration Changes

Post by forumadmin » Mon Jan 06, 2014 9:42 pm

Over the last week or so w have been getting a bit of spam in the forums. Gary, AB5RM, has been on top of it but it has been a pain to deal with. We believe that bots have been getting through the default captcha program during the registration process. In an attempt to keep the bots out, we have made a couple of changes.

1. Installed and implemented a different kind of captcha program that requires physical data manipulation.
2. Require an email confirmation to be sent to users email address.

Although this will make it a bit more complicated to register, we hope it will keep the bots out.

Good luck with fighting the spam, when I ran a small board I just gave up and switched to admin activation only to stop them.

Yeah, I thought it would be an up hill battle, but since we implemented the changes, we haven't had any spam at all. Knock on wood.
