AM Rally is this Weekend - The AM Rally is open to radio amateurs running full-carrier amplitude modulation using any type of radio equipment — modern, vintage, tube, solid-state, software-defined, military, boat anchor, broadcast, homebrew, or commercial. The event website at http://www.amrally.com has complete details.

Ham Radio Technician Training Class and License Exam, Saturday, February 2 ⋅ 08:30 – 18:00. North Point Church, 7030 Hwy 78, Sachse. Bring proper identification and monies for the exam.

RACES Nets – The RACES training net is next Tuesday at 9 p.m. on the WJ5J/R.

February Meeting - Please join us Thursday 02/07 at 7 p.m. We meet at the Rutherford Community Center at 900 Rutherford Dr, in Mesquite, TX. The Board of Directors meeting is at 6:30 p.m. just prior to the monthly meeting.

Door Prize at March Meeting – Every club member at the March meeting will receive a ticket for a door prize. One lucky member will go home with electric screw driver designed for production line work. It has adjustable torque, variable speed control, quick change collet, and a set of ten screw tips. These are designed for use in the assembly and repair of tablets and mobile phones. No extra tickets to be sold. One ticket per member so everyone has an equal chance to win.

The HAM election of officers is schedule for March 2019. Please consider running for an officer in HAM and providing your knowledge and guidance for the next year. The election committee consists of Les, K5IBK, Neil, KE5NSS, and Keith, KE5NUB. Please let anyone on the committee know if you are interested in running for an office.

Skywarn Training on Saturday the 16th of February in Garland at the Granville Auditorium. The basic training is from 9 a.m. until noon. The advanced training is from 1:30 until 4 o’clock. The complete list of North Texas training sessions is at https://www.weather.gov/fwd/skywarnsch?sptrsch

The Garland club is sponsoring classes for the General exam on Tuesday evenings starting after Skywarn training. Look for additional information at k5qhd.org

Mentor Fest is on April 27th at the Hella Shrine Temple at 2121 Rowlett Road in Garland, TX 75040 More info will be at posted at http://www.arrlntx.org/mentorfest as the date gets closer. The club has been invited to set up a table.

HAM Radio In The Park – Start planning those outdoor projects to bring out to Ham Radio In The Park. We do not have the dates locked down with the parks department just yet but we typically have a park outing in March, April, and May.

For those just getting started on their Amateur Radio journey, ARRL is launching a new podcast aimed at answering your questions, providing support and encouragement for newcomers to get the most out of the hobby. The podcast “So Now What?” will launch on Thursday, March 7, and new episodes will be posted every other Thursday.
