Heathkit SB-102 Repair

Post by mayorphill » Wed Dec 02, 2015 6:35 pm

I have an old Heathkit SB-102 that was given to me by my uncles after my grandfather passed away. I'm new to HAM and electronics so I don't have much of an idea of what I'm doing. I'd like to repair the radio, but I don't know where to start. Is there anyone that offers repair services on the old tube radios that might be able to help teach me along the way?

Thanks!

Phill

There are a few guys around who might work on it, but honestly, unless you can do the work yourself, the labor time is going to run into several hundreds and you still have an antique. Thank your relatives for their kind gesture, then find some change for an Alinco or Icom that's new with a warranty. Heathkits came unassembled with detailed directions and it could take a year or longer to put it together. Anyone else?

I used to have one back in the 1980's.
Some things about the tube rigs are:
1. If you keep the rig turn on all the time, it did not drift that much.
2. You did not need an external tuner. Just tune it for max output.
3. They had decent audio
4. Will survive a nuke holocaust.
